If you like flues then you would know that there is a vide variety of flutes. Flutes are basically piped shaped musical instruments that have holes on the top at regular distance. One end of it would have a mouth piece and the other end out be open. As you would blow air there would be a sound produce and the player would use his fingers to block and unblock the holes at the top, this is what would produce different melodies from the same flute.

The flute family would include Piccolo; Flautino in g "Nightingale Flute"; Descant Flute in F; E-Flat Flute; Concert Flute; Alto Flute; Alto Pinschofon; Bass Flute; Pinschofon; Contra Bass Flute; Octo Bass Flute; Sub Contra Bass Flute and Curved Flutes. You can assume that the list is not exhaustive. As there have been so many advancements and innovations that before we know there is another one on the black. Each of these flutes would have some thing or the other distinctive about them. Because of the way they are made and with the material a flute is made, the sound quality which that would produce would be drastically different from one another. There would be some included in certain kind of music. Like for example, jazz would not mind using the brass flute but this would not be suitable for any other kind of music at the same time. Hence, the need of a flute from the entire flute family would rest on the fact that what music you want to create from it.

One of the biggest flutes from the family of flutes would be the contra bass flute. This is huge in side. This would probably stand as high as an average sized adult. This could be played while you are sitting in a chair and have this contra bass flute tilted and you could stand as well and play it by holding it straight up from the ground. This would have a twisted mount end so that the player can rest his lips on it. This looks magnificent and if you have one in your house as an inheritance from your great grand parents but no one knows how to play it. Place it in the corner and it would still attract all the attention a contra bass flute deserves, without being played.
